Why must you tell me these things car!

The car also had NPR on and I heard the news. Then I was slightly depressed for all the people that voted for Obama hoping their friends, children, and spouses would be sent home from Afghanistan. I wonder if he will be as criticized as Bush was for the situation. Then again, another trip to Oprah and he will have the adoration of thousands all over again.

I smartly switched to the local 'alternative rock' station and listened to people's stories about how no matter how successful they are, they are a disappointment to their families. Unfortunately that was followed by a news update that included the number of additional troops Obama has asked to send to Afghanistan. We have spend $1 trillion towards this whole thing.

But enough about depressing things heard on the radio...

We have no baby name. We have considered selling the rights to naming our child to the highest bidder. I am so sick of names and people's thoughts on them. I am reminded why we didn't tell anyone any name possibilities when we were pregnant with Alice.

Tonight (cross fingers!) we should actually get the front windows installed. You know, with caulk and trim and the ability to not feel a breeze around every edge of the windows. Sometimes I feel bad that I make huge projects for Daniel. Happy night off (no night school or scouts), please spend lots of time outside getting mosquito bites. P.S. Tonight and tomorrow had flash flood warnings, but it should be about 20 degrees warmer than this morning.

Off to a 9am Enrichment Committee Meeting. Or is it a Relief Society Committee meeting now?

Comments make me feel validated

Yes, I am trolling for comments. Besides who wants to read the title "to do list of the week." Even though, the to-do list is SUPER exciting.

Weather report for Tuesday and Wednesday...highs in the uppers 70s, low Tues night 39!!!!, some clouds Wed, no rain. What does that mean??

1. Replace front window. That is a Daniel project. But, he wanted a heads up of 2 days in a row (preference on Tues and Wed) with good weather for window removal and replacement.

I might not say anything and let him read this on his lunch break Monday. (he fell asleep with Alice at 8:30)

2. Sew the velcro tabs onto the otherwise completely overhauled BumGenius diapers! I am pretty sure I will have to adjust the bobbin tension back since I can't remember if I did that after sewing the charity blankets at the Relief Society service project thingy.

Daniel was all excited that I had done 7 diaper covers because I sent them through the dryer to seal up any holes in the PUL already. No sorry, didn't have time to add velcro tabs yet.

3. Figure out where I want to store the eight million bottles of cleaners that we got last week. If we get H1N1, I have enough cleaners to disinfect the house top to bottom every day for months. If we don't we have a good 2 year supply.

4. Return the house to pre-weekend condition. Lets just say, the BumGenius overhaul along with me going away for 8 hours leaving Daniel and Alice alone to rampage = lots that needs done. Mild cleaning happened this evening because it was so horrible, but it was so much prettier Thursday.

5. Finish moving the crib to Alice's room. If that happens additional cleaning and furniture room swapping will occur. But none of that can happen easily until the crib is in place.

6. Buy another layer of blackout curtians/blinds/something for Alice's windows. Getting up at 6:30am, refusing to nap, and throwing tired tantrums all day has got to STOP.

7. Stop eating tomatoes and tomato sauce. I have had a few heartburn free days, then I had spaghetti. Man was it good.

Future House Project

So Alice has started sleeping poorly. She will go to bed pretty well at night, but then come morning she is up and at 'em before the SUN. Not to mention she will stay awake for a few hours and then crash again. I can't help but think that I am encouraging this type of behavior, since I am trying to convince her that she doesn't need to nurse. I have been more successful with not nursing to sleep before bed, than with some of the other nursing times. This makes me think she is waking up earlier and taking more naps to make up for it. A few weeks ago we had pretty much stopped daytime nursing but nursed at night, so I suppose this is what happens when you try and wean someone that doesn't want to be weaned.

So this morning, Daniel left for work and we went on a walk through the neighborhood. We saw a barking dog, a curious cat, and some old lady taking out her trash. It was sort of funny because its trash day, but its been raining so much lately that there was lots of rain soaked boxes and bags at the curb. Makes me glad I have never had that job.

Over the weekend we went to garage sales. We bought some more Alice sized furniture (a couple of chairs and a folding table, as well as a foam 'chair' with a cube for a foot rest). We also saw some replacement windows for $400. We got the measurements and the guys phone number, then went home and measured the windows. The are shorter than what we currently have in the living room, but they are almost the same width, i.e. SCORE. So we got 20 twenties out of the ATM and got those Monday night. The guy even delivered them. Sometime in August when its wickedly hot, but Daniel is done with school we will pull out the old windows, build in some additional framing, and put in the new ones.

I do think its sort of funny, that we decided to not make any major purchases until July, then we threw $400 toward windows that we aren't even going to replace for a couple of months. Actions like this right after buying a couch make our bank account feel poor. But, we won't have to pay the credit card until July, and we get paid 3 times that month, and I don't see us doing any other window buying until we have replaced the living room windows. Plus we can probably keep double paying the mortgage like we have been, even with the large purchases.

I did notice as I walked the neighborhood, the houses that have newer windows in them. In general they look really good. Expect one house that was for sale, and is now just for lease where they replaced the windows with much smaller windows and it just looks sad. Partly because they have this really wide Black edges around the white vinyl frames. Of course that house looks pretty bad anyway, who has a dark gray house with black trim anyway? It seems like it should be haunted or at least filled with creepy drug dealers.

After those windows, and the repairs on the front of the house where we did NOT have flooding in the 9 hours of rain yesterday (yay!), the bedroom windows will be a piece of cake. Especially since I think they have replacement windows in the exact same size at home depot for about $150/window. Of course we will probably end up with the more expensive windows to better match the living room's fanciness. Those vinyl windows even have wood trim on the inside, which the basic models do not have.

So August will be fun times. Especially if I am Daniel's only labor.

Roof Repairs

Saturday was not rainy. That meant we did some roof action.

Good things:
1. roof repaired
2. no one got hurt
3. everything was cleaned up before the rain hit Sunday

Learning Moments:
1. Our roof was not installed correctly (go figure)
2. if you see water damage inside, you might find out that the wood under the shingles is rotted
3. leaving the car seat outside in the rain makes it wet.
4. basic understanding of roof anatomy and repairs.

Overall Daniel says the roof is ugly. This is because its hard to replace shingles that end up underneath other shingles. If we had the materials, or the perseverance, he would have bought a couple of additional shingles for the peak (different from regular) and madethe job faster and better looking.

Supposedly this is the biggest patch of hail damage, so as long as we don't get large amounts of hail soon, we should be fine for a couple of years.

Oh, and next time Daniel will take a couple of days off work, and just remove a whole section bottom to top and replace the strip. That's probably how we will end up reroofing our house when the time comes.

So yeah! One more home repair skill! Go us. (disclaimer: I was not involved in any of the roof repairs or work. I don't do heights.)

Don't inhale

I found out that this caulk type stuff that you put on windows to seal them for the winter is really noxious. I.E. if you inhale the fumes it will affect you neurologically...and make you go nutso or at least feel sick and screw with your nervous system.

Luckily I think all the yucky stuff has pretty much dissapated. (I learned that if you can smell the fumes, its not ventilated enough oops) and that would explain why the baby was so 'cry, cry, cry.' So yeah. Tada. All is well, not just cause I had come to terms with feeling not as amazing as all these other people that in my view are freaking awesome (don't ask guys, everyone has one of those days I am sure)

Daniel took some time off work to get caught up on end of the semester projects...and he also came down sick yesterday. So his nose is drip, drip, drip. And I have some very stuffed sinuses, so I am sure I will be the next to drip. Oh well.

I glued the broom head onto the handle last night. And then duct taped it. Yeah its stylish. Then while I was holding a piece of trim for daniel to nail into the wall, I look at Alice. Yeah, she had taken the lid off the wood glue and had it all over her, and the floor. Daniel transported her to the tub, and I came up and bathed her. It was everywhere. In her hair, covering her clothes, sticking her fingers and toes together. Yes. Glue.

So I got to take a shower after I bathed her cause she still hates baths and was trying to crawl her way out of teh tub via my body.

Now, if only she didn't want to be awake at 6am.
