Taking Flight!

A couple of months ago, when we were notified that meeting Daniel's family for Thanksgiving meant going to Florida, I signed up for email alerts when there were low priced tickets.

I got an email about reduced fares and ignored it.

Until I went visiting teaching. I learned that there was great ticket prices between Kansas City and Salt Lake City so the visiting teachee bought her sister/mom/whomever tickets to come visit. It was some 48 hour sale or something.

That motivated me to actually read the email last night. I clicked on the link and searched for ticket prices. Holy cow. Only $180 round trip. So it was time to do some quick shopping and looking at the airline's website as well.

Can we say $59 down and $79 returning? With taxes, and fees we are paying a more than $200/person but we got to choose our seats, got flight insurance, and only have to pay $15 to check a bag. The second closest price was $300ish per ticket.

Yeah, I am excited. Now we just have to figure out how to get 3 days worth of stuff into either 2 carry ons and a diaper bag, or one checked bag and carry ons. Its only 3 days, so I don't think it will be that bad. We will probably use disposable diapers to make packing lighter, so now we just have to figure out what size Alice wears.

I am so glad we saw these prices and could throw out the consideration of driving down there. Sure it would have been fine (probably), but it would have been days of traveling and hotel rooms. Now, we just have to actually order a copy of Alice's birth certificate. I know, I know she is 18 months, we should have done this before. But, it was put of for a bit, then forgotten. But, I was reminded by the airlines that they may require a birth certificate as proof of under 2. Since Alice will be just a month shy of 2, they will probably expect proof.

How to be Cheap!

So today was the morning of 'amazing' deals and lots pf people shopping. My observation of the day was: people WILL spend money, even if they have none.

We got back from Thanksgiving with the family last night with a feverish and cranky baby. After finally locating the thermometer, we found out, yes 103.2 is bad and drugged her quite well with infant ibuprofen. The nice part about it, she actaully can stand the taste of it, unlike evil infant tylenol. Cherry flavor = death; berry flavor = i guess I can take this. 7 hours later she woke up and felt warm, and was wet, and Daniel was not in bed. Of course I didn't know what time it was, I just knew it was late(ish) and he wasn't there. I called him and he admited he was watching season 2 of heroes. So check temp again, 102.1. Thats better than 103, and it had been long enough, enter drugs.

Then Daniel was not fast enough putting her diaper back on, and alice peed on our bed. Um, yay. Look for another sheet. Then change the pillowcases, etc and force everyone to take showers. OK I was already in the shower when the pee-ing happened, but whatever. Then I realized it was 5:30am.

Now since we had discussed goign to black friday cause there were some things we wanted/needed that were great deals, and everyone was awake. We all got dressed and headed out into the sleet/rain.

1st stop, the dreaded Walmart stop. Yes it was packed. Yes there were deals, but I got so messed up trying to push a cart around and avoid people that after about 15 minutes, all we had was cough drops. (Yeah the pharmacy section was EMPTY). So we got close to the whole way round the store and decided, we are not going to be buying enough stuff to justify an hour or two in line. Literally lines were backed up down the main aisles almost the whole way to electronics (the hub of activity of course). So we abandoned the cart and the lone item in the midst of the clothing section (also deserted) and went outside to hike our way to our car.

Next stop Sears, cause I had seen online they they were going to have some pot and pan set, and I have been wanting sometihng along those lines for a couple years...and after finally finding the area, and the 'deal' we realized the pans weren't good enoghu quality for us to want them. And all the other things that were good deals, weren't needed or were just too expensive.

So we drove home. With nothing. Yeah. I know, we are cheap. OR maybe we are just poor. But the baby went back to bed and is still passed out, and so is Daniel. So that was my morning.

Daniel is 25!

Well saying that just made me feel old.

One year ago today (July 19th, 2007) we got a sonogram of Alice. She didn't let us know she was a she though. Daniel thought she just looked like mud. She did measure right at 20 weeks though. We both took the day off work too. That was back before I realized we needed every penny we could make. Technically we didn't, well no we did because we were saving up for a downpayment on the house. Glad those days are over.

So we went shopping today. We went to a couple of yard sales, but didn't find much. There was one that had tons of cute stuff, but lets face it I don't wear jewelery, I have lots of art thats still not hung up, AND students don't have baby stuff. But they do have really cute stuff. We also went to Walmart to spend Daniel's gift card from work.

FYI Walmart no longer carries FFXII. Sad. Don't worry we bought other stuff. Including some glade candle airfresheners. There was a lady i nthe aisle that told me we could have a free candle holder. She gave me two because she said she had 60 and no one was talking to her. They didn't have all the scents on her table though, so we went down to the aisle and smelled them all, and even restocked her Vanilla. It was only $2.50 for a three pack and we don't use smelly things very often, so I figured why not. Later in line we got behind a lady who spent $260. Yeah, crazy I know. And it took so long I decided to look at the candle holder. In it was a $1 coupon. That means the candles were only $1.5o. Score.

Then we went to Target since we still have Alice's gift card from the baby shower. And they had it! The guy thought they had put it on clearance, but then found it and hunted us down in the store. For the record, Target was so much less chaotic that it was pretty much amazing. Daniel even made the comment that we might start shopping there instead. Afterall, great customer service, and prices that are pretty much the same as Walmart (being right across the street does that). Besides, we looked at the baby stuff since Alice has been doing a great job of getting longer and found some great bargains. We got some shorts and a couple of shirts for 98 cents each. Sweet! Plus, there was a couple of cute dresses for like $3 each, and a pack of 5 onesies for $6. That's right. She has clothing! She will be sporting something cute tommorow.

Speaking of Alice: this afternoon Alice was playing and I let her have the laptop to play with. Next thing I see, she has the computer screen upside down and the keyboard won't use all the keys. In fact I tried to search for 'display upside down" and got "d *pl * up" etc. Luckily a reboot solved that problem, and I found out that if you go under graphics options when you right click on the desktop you can change that. Problem solved, and a great trick to play on friends and family.
